| Born in Berlin/Germany, du Bois Reymond early on was established an electrophysiologist. His contributions to electrophysiology were monumental. He described early on the findings of the resting currents seen in excised nerve and muscles. Following their contributions was his observations basic to the understanding of the changes that take place during activity. His third major contribution was the concept of "electrotonus" a term coined to refer to potential changes produced by externally applied current. Later du Bois-Reymond, a major member in the Physical Society, promoted the welfare of science and even published on brain-mind relationship. |  |
