About

The Understanding Neighborhood Determinants of Obesity  (UNDO) Research team is part of the Texas Obesity Research Center in the Department of Health and Human Performance at The University of Houston.

The  UNDO Research Team conducts research anchored in an ecological framework that incorporates environmental and individual determinants of physical activity, dietary habits and obesity in populations of color. The work combines theory and techniques drawn from behavioral medicine, community psychology, geography, policy science, social ecology and social marketing.

Led by Dr. Rebecca E. Lee, the UNDO research team conducts community based prevention research aimed at increasing physical activity and reducing obesity in ethnic minority populations and is anchored in an ecological framework that incorporates environmental and individual determinants of physical activity, dietary habits and obesity in populations of color. Their work incorporates the built environment and social context as important and under-researched elements of making and sustaining healthy behavior choices. UNDO currently has five funded projects: HIP, HOUSTON, SALSA, IHC and S&C.
