Conceptual Framework of the College of Education - Collaboration for Learning and Leading

In the spirit of the College of Education's conceptual framework this course exposes the students to the collaborative efforts of teachers, medical doctors, research scientists, industry leaders and government officials to gain a comprehensive understanding of the process of movement control and learning as they relate to the development of healthy lifestyles. This collaborative approach is reflected in the many techniques used to deliver course content and the varied assessments all designed to prepare the students to assume leading roles in society in the professional area of movement and physical fitness.

Note - All rules regarding student conduct, sexual harassment, and academic dishonesty will be strictly enforced and the professor reserves the right to impose stricter penalties, including issuing a failing grade, than those provided in any and all student handbook(s) or regulations. Course Objectives

The students will:

1) demonstrate an understanding of how to obtain information about granting agencies

2) demonstrate an understanding of how to obtain information relevant to the development of a grant/program proposal

3) demonstrate the ability to develop a grant/program proposal, including a reasonable budget

4) demonstrate the ability to publicly defend their proposed project

Course Outline

Introduction - why write grants?, what is a high quality proposal, how are proposals evaluated?, developing your idea - be realistic

Information search strategies - locating granting agencies, locating supporting materials for proposal development

Reading Requests for Proposals (RFPs) - oh, those subliminal messages

Writing made easy? - getting started, organizing your thoughts, writing for readers

Budgets - how much is too much?, how much is enough?, justify! justify!

Forms - Argh!

Working as part of team - successful strategies for proposal development

Respecting your Office of Sponsored - 'nuff said

Publicly defending your proposal - tips for high quality presentations
